Direc TV became AT&T's main direct-to-consumer broadcast service, taking over from wireline-based U-verse.
It is the largest satellite broadcaster in the US, and the second largest pay-TV service overall (behind Comcast).
In fact, it was originally launched in the 1990s by what was then the satellite communications division of General Motors.
In 2001 it became the the subject of a long and bruising takeover bid by Rupert Murdoch.
Despite months of negotiations with Murdoch's News Corp, GM agreed to sell the business to US rival Echo Star/Dish instead.
That deal, though, was later blocked by regulators, allowing Murdoch to capture the business on the rebound.Remember, if you watch PBS39 through a cable or satellite provider (Comcast, Frontier, Mediacom, Direc TV, DISH, etc) you don’t need to do anything. They have been notified of our channel change and will continue to provide PBS39.On that day, PBS39 completed its move from RF channel 40 to RF channel 18 as part of the FCC’s channel re-pack process.Since then, we had been broadcasting using a temporary side mounted antenna to satisfy the FCC deadline until the new antenna could be installed.Make sure that your antenna is pointed in the correct direction before performing a channel scan on your television or converter box.If your television or converter box doesn’t detect the signal(s) you are interested in, you will need to readjust your antenna and perform another channel scan and repeat until the tuner identifies the signal(s).Once the signal is identified then fine tune the position with the television’s signal strength indicator.Quality/Strength Indicator With digital television, viewers will see the same quality of picture regardless of the signal level on their television. It has an extensive entertainment offering as well as several exclusive benefits of its own, including the NFL Sunday Ticket telecast.Unlike most cable providers, who are limited to a regional footprint, Direc TV has virtually blanket national coverage of the US.
