His ancestors were traditionally whalers and Grand Banks fisherman, sailing out of the Islands and then Provincetown.
He is the author of five collections of poetry and two novels.

She holds an MA in Slavic literature and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan, and she teaches in the graduate program for creative writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, two fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
